Spelling Changes and Next Week's Schedule

On this week's newsletter it says we have spelling!  WE DON'T!!!  It was changed after the newsletter was printed, so NO spelling!!!  There won't be any spelling next week either because of the schedule changes for SEP's next week (which I forgot to add to the newsletter!)  Plan on half a day Wednesday, no school Thursday and regular day Friday!  There is a note in the communicator!!

Important update!

Dear parents,

I actually ended up having my baby much earlier than expected. It was totally unexpected, otherwise I wouldn't have sent home all of the info for parent-teacher conferences.

Matea Bradshaw is subbing for me until I return from maternity leave. I am hoping to be back in 4-6 weeks but where this is our first child we aren't sure what to expect :)

Matea is so awesome and we are lucky to have her help us out! If you have any questions for her, please email me and I will relay and work with her to get any questions you have answered.

I will send a note home when I return to school and we can go from there as far as meeting for parent teacher conferences, etc.

Thank you!!

-Mrs. S.

Here is what is happening this week:

Reading & Math: We have finished testing…woohoo!! Overall, I was pretty pleased with our testing scores – especially in math! Thank you for all of your hard work at home with your child – it definitely paid off and didn’t go unnoticed. We will continue to review but will be practicing a lot for our program as well. Enclosed is a card with your child’s NWEA testing scores. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Pencils Needed: I don’t know why but our class LOVES to destroy pencils as quickly as possible. I buy a new box about every other week but we they seem to disappear or be destroyed just as quickly as I buy them. If you happen to see any on a great deal and would like to donate to our class we would surely appreciate it!

Thank you, and have a good week!

Super Spellers !!

These students have received perfect scores on their spelling tests all year long!
They get a free meal to Wingers! Congratulations!!

Week of March 24th - 28th

IMPORTANT! – rubber band bracelets – We have had quite the problem with rubber band bracelets lately. At first it was a matter of finding them all over the floor, janitors (and myself) weren’t too happy. Now we are having problems with kids flinging them. They have also been a distraction during instruction and learning time. Please talk to your child about them, because I am going to have to start taking them away for good if they are a problem. Thanks.

Also, enclosed is a homework packet to help your child get ready for our testing at the end of April. This is on his/her own time and does not need to be returned to school.

Here is what is happening this week:
Reading: We will continue to work on story elements (setting, character, plot, etc.).  Please talk about those things when your child reads baggie books each night. We will learn the hawk card “au”, “aw”, “ou”, and the toy card “oi” and “oy” sounds this week. We will then start reviewing.
Spelling: No more spelling tests! Woohoo!! We will do some spelling awards to students who had consistent outstanding spelling scores all year long.
Math: We will start shapes and fractions of shapes today (Topic 16). This is our last Topic in math. Once we finish, we will start reviewing everything we have learned this year on math PLUS extra that we should expect to see on the Spring NWEA Math test.
YPP: We have 176 green dots. Our new class goal is 180 green dots by April 15th. Each student has made an individual goal and will be rewarded if he/she reaches it each week. YPP can be done at home as well. Email me for instructions if they have been misplaced.

Social Studies: We have learned how to be a builder and build others up. Please sign and return the enclosed yellow form to show that your child agrees to be a builder! This was a Prevention Dimension lesson!
Thank you, and have a good week!
