If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow. -John Dewey

Week of January 13th - 17th

Here is what is happening this week:
Reading:             The decodable books are going to start getting a bit more difficult. Please be sure to read these each night. They review the sound/blend that was taught that day.
Book Orders: DUE tomorrow – students receive a free bracelet when you order online!
Spelling:            The words are quite easy. They are High Frequency words and most likely we will work on the High Frequency words the rest of the year, as research shows that if students can spell the 300 HF words correctly, they can read 65% of any text. We haven't found something (spelling wise) that we like yet and that we feel is giving the kids what they need. I apologize for all of the changes with spelling. It is pretty much a review for a couple weeks and then it should pick up a bit.
Math:                We will test on Topic 7 on Tuesday and start Topic 8 on Wednesday. We will be NWEA Testing as well.
YPP: We met our class goal of 100 green dots after receiving 102 green dots last Thursday. We celebrated on Friday.
Science:              We will be learning how to sort and classify items over the next week or two.
Social Studies:    We will be learning about our community, school community and neighborhoods. The school uses a program called “Prevention Dimensions”, it is state-wide, that helps children recognize their feelings and emotions. It promotes friendship and boosts self-esteem. A paper will come home to explain what we have learned each time we have a lesson on this.

Thank you, and have a good week!
